The Story
The first wine label for the Ikonic Spirits brand, our founder, John, wanted to honor his mother's legacy. Losing her in 2020, the label “Phyllis” was established in her memory. The logo is a purple tree with his mother's name in bold script underneath. The name, Phylis means “the strongest branch of a tree”. The vivid colors of purple and lavender, are his mother's favorites and also reflect on her amethyst birthstone.
In continuity with the family legacy, the first product “Etta Red”, was named for John's grandmother, and his second product, “Joneé”, after his daughter. John is a dedicated family man who has grown to appreciate the process of growing, creating, and distributing great wines and spirits. He strives to continue representing the strength of family and legacy through his beautiful wines so that others may enjoy the fruits of his families labors.
Premium Michigan Lake Effect Wines
Etta Red
Etta Red is a blend of Chambourcin/
Merlot/Cab Sauvignon wine having a bold red wine character without the usual tannic harshness.
The aroma and the flavors lean toward an intense cherry and blackberry fruit character with an underlying hint of raspberry.
Joneè Rosè
Joneè is a blend of fruity blush wine that is soft and easy to drink. The subtle strawberry and red raspberry notes are topped off with a light floral character that holds up well with a light chill. This is a sweet wine designed for immediate consumption and does not benefit from bottle ageing.
The Lake Effect - Wines to Love
The Lake Michigan Shore American Viticultural Area (AVA) is the 3rd oldest recognized in the U.S. only behind Napa Valley and Augusta AVA in Missouri. The terrain of the Lake Michigan Shore Appellation is mostly the result of the glacial movement that formed the Great Lakes during the Ice Age. It consists largely of sandy slopes and hills, providing ideal drainage for the vines. Vines grow deep and develop robust root systems that produce high-quality fruit.

The condition is referred to as the “Lake Effect”.

The vineyards for Phyllis Wine® are located on the top of a large sand ridge thatextends inland from Lake Michigan between the Black River and the Kalamazoo River valleys. The proximity to Lake Michigan is a delicate balance of being close enough to provide significant moderations of winter temperatures and far enough away from the lake so that there’s a moderate cooling effect during the summer months. Lake Michigan acts as a temperature moderator throughout the year.
